How UV Attacks a Countertop

Ultraviolet light does more than warm a surface — it breaks down chemical bonds. In materials that rely on polymer resins, prolonged UV can fade pigments, yellow whites and even weaken the binder over time. South Florida gets intense sun nearly year-round, so a surface that isn’t UV-stable ages fast on an exposed patio. This is the single biggest reason most engineered quartz is not recommended outdoors.

UV damage is cosmetic but permanent — a faded slab can’t be restored — while heat damage tends to be sudden, like a resin surface scorching under a hot pan. Outdoors in Florida you face both at once, so you want a material that shrugs off each independently.
