Why Quartz Is Different

Engineered quartz is roughly 90% ground stone bound with about 10% polymer resin. That resin is what makes quartz nonporous and beautiful, but it is also heat-sensitive. A pan straight off the burner or a hot slow-cooker base can leave a scorch mark, dull spot or discoloration that is difficult to reverse. The stone itself is fine, but the resin is not.
